About Us

The original Bissett Elementary was built in 1925 at 1535 North Golden Street, which is now the home of Homeland Baptist Church. Bissett is named after Mrs. Emma Bissett for her hard work in getting a school for the northwest area of the school district and as a member of the Springfield Board of Education for six years, from 1926 to 1930. The current building was constructed on West Calhoun Street in 1950 and opened for the 1950-51 school year.

Bissett is a small neighborhood school of less than 250 students and is committed to the learning of students with research-based practices and quality staff. We use a PBIS system (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) school-wide and do that through asking every student to hold to PRIDE expectations. In PRIDE, P=politeness, R=respect, I=integrity, D=discipline, and E=effort. Students are recognized in class and school wide when they are excelling at these expectations.
